[urgent]Data lost!!! Help me to recover

I was installing ubuntu and i selected replacing window 7.
Ubuntu deleted all partitions of my hard drive and creating a single partition to install ubuntu.

I have lost movies, tv series, games and some important files of 500gb.

There is any chance to recover them?
Currently i have ubuntu installed , i should install window 7 to recover data??
plz help

Messing up partitions during Ubuntu Installation is the worse kind of luck. Needless to say you learned your lesson the hard way.

Data can be recovered if Ubuntu only did a quick format. You don't want to risk creating another partition and installing Windows on it, since that would most probably overwrite the data. Now I am not a pro in Ubuntu, so can't suggest any utility to recover data from Ubuntu. (Wait for more replies on them).

But don't you have some other PC, where you can attach this HDD and try to recover data using utilities like Recuva? This would be the most safe and advised method.

Any powerful recovering software?

Removing hard drive is last option I guess.
Is there is any way to recover whole partition and its data?

There are many. You can try Recuva which is freeware. But if that doesn't work, you can get "Stellar Phoenix Windows Data Recovery" from "somewhere".
But few things are important while you take a backup:
1. Dont run any chkdsk (check disk) utilities on the drive from which data is to be recovered.
2. Don't backup on the same drive from where data is being recovered.
3. Choose some other drive (physical HDD) to copy the content which the softwares show.

Use Hiren Boot CD and use Recuva from it. If you are lucky that will fix the issue.

Using Hiren's boot CD is a good idea. Which won't require to use HDD on some secondary PC. But OP has to remember not to take backup on the same drive.

recuva has a deep scan functionality, normal scan is not powerful enough. So try with deep scan

Most probably since the partition was formatted to ext from NTFS. Don't know if EXT is supported by Recuva.. but I think you need to try more softwares now.

You've probably screwed lots of things by now but still refer this - ntfs - How do I recover my accidentally lost Windows partitions after installing Ubuntu? - Ask Ubuntu
