1. What is the purpose of the computer? What all applications and games are you going to run? (Stupid answers like 'gaming' or 'office work' will not work. Be exact. Which games? Which applications? Avoid the word 'et cetera.')
Ans:
Applications: Visual Studio 2013 and 2015 (professional) along with a VM on Hyper-V, Firefox with 10+ tabs, Notepad++ with <10 documents, Android Studio, Unity 3D
Games: GTA IV, CS:GO, Burnout: Paradise. Also, planning to get GTA V in future.

2. What is your overall budget? If you can extend a bit for a more balanced configuration, then mention this too.
Ans: 38k to 40k INR Not so flexible. Can extend by 1k or so if it is really worth it.

3. Planning to overclock?
Ans: No

4. Which Operating System are you planning to use?
Ans: Windows 8.1 Pro along with Ubuntu 14.04

5. How much hard drive space is needed?
Ans: Already have a WD Blue 250GB, Will be willing to get a WD green 1TB if budget permits.

6. Do you want to buy a monitor? If yes, please mention which screen size and resolution do you want. If you already have a monitor and want to reuse it, again mention the size and resolution of monitor you have.
Ans: No, Have a Dell IN1930 18.5" (1333x768)

7. Which components you DON'T want to buy or which components you already have and plan on reusing?
Ans: Monitor, Keyboard, Speakers, Optical Drive, Mouse. Also, don't want HDD, RAM, Cabinet if beyond budget.

8. When are you planning to buy the system?
Ans: In a week or two

9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler?
Ans: Yes, will be assembled by myself.

10. Where do you live? Are you buying locally? Are you open to buying stuff from online shops if you don't get locally?
Ans: Online or from Chennai.

11. Anything else which you would like to say?
Ans: I am fixed on getting a i5-4440 and a B85 socket motherboard. After a little bit of research, I have come up with the following config.

ProcessorIntel i5 444013,000I'm hell bent on getting an i5 :D
CPU Coolerstock0Not overclocking, so no need.
MotherboardAsus B85M-G6,000Interested in B85 socket; H81 will do too.
MemoryKingston HyperX Fury DDR3 4 GB 1600 MHz2,250Can skip it for now, Already have a 4GB module.
Graphics CardAsus GTX 750TI 2GB DDR5 OC12,500Need suggestion and comments
Power SupplySeasonic S12II 4304,000Need suggestion and comments
HDDWD Green 1 TB 7200 RPM HDD3,500Can skip it for now
Total41,250A little over my budget

Have a few queries,
 • Can a GTX750TI run games like GTA V at 720p (med settings) with 30-40 FPS?
 • If I exclude the RAM, HDD and go for a H81 socket motherboard, I can get a GTX960 instead of GTX750TI. But, Will that be an overkill considering my screen resolution?
 • Is Seasonic S12II 430 enough to power this config? Or should I go for S12II 520 PSU?
 • Except for the extra RAM slots and SATA III headers, Is there anything else that a B85 Mobo offers over a H81 socket Mobo?
 • If I settle for a i3-4150, I can get a GTX960 along with HDD and RAM. But would that be a wise choice? Considering that most application I use are processor intensive. Also, Gaming is not primary need. I don't want any compromise in processing power or lag in the programs I use. That's why, I'm much more inclined towards the i5-4440.

Is AMD FX-6300 worth buying now? I feel they are a bit outdated. Also, the power consumption is too high.

I would suggest getting ASUS H81M-CS. It would save around 2k.
Instead of 1 TB HDD, go with 750GB or 500GB HDD. You already have 250GB, so add that.

Add saved money and get a GTX 960 for 16000 @ snapdeal.

Since, resolution of your monitor is low, 960 would easily handle games like GTA V.
Rest config is fine.

Thank you, Will check that Mobo. In what way B85 and H81 sockets differ? (except RAM slots and SATA III ports) Is it worth the extra money spent on a B85 socket MoBo?

I'd rather get a 1TB as the price difference is just a few hundreds.

Can't GTX750TI give 30-40 fps on games like GTA V at 720p? Even at low/med settings?

GTX750TI can do 30 -40 fps at 1080p med to high settings even at 1080p. at 720p u can go very high..

That's what I wanted to know. :)

I have asked for the prices of both GTX750TI and GTX960 from a local store. Most probably, I would decide based on the quote given. If they are more or less same as online prices, I would prefer the GTX960 just to be future-proof. Otherwise, GTX750TI is the way to go.

Also, I'm considering to get Corsair CX500 instead of Seasonic S12II 430. I know it is not recommended but at least I would have a better RMA when compared to Antec and Seasonic.

Don't base ur decision on how well GTA works on the config. GTA is a well optimized game and performs great on even low end systems while Very few other games do so.
Try to get gtx 960 as much as possible.

Get i5 + Gtx 960 + Seasonic s12 520 combination

That's a good combination of components. But, I don't live in a city and Seasonic RMA can be a hassle. (from what I get from this thread www.digit.in/forum/service-rma-watc...friends-who-helped-me-get-antec-warranty.html)

I see H81 socket motherboards have PCIe 2.0 slot whereas B85 socket motherboards have PCIe 3.0 slots. I know they are backward compatible. But, Is the performance difference noticeable?

Ok. Thanks. Then, I'll go for H81 socket MoBo.

Still waiting for a quote from the local dealer. Will decide on the components after getting the quote of each component. At present have this in mind: i5-4440, H81 Mobo, GTX960, Corsair CX500, WD Green 1TB

Already have a WD Blue, this one is only for additional storage; not for installing OS. So, WD Green should do great I suppose. Anyway, If the price difference is only a few hundreds, I don't have problem going for WD Blue again.

Visiting the local dealer today. Will ask him if he will handle RMA if anything goes wrong. If he does, then I have no problem going for Antec VP550P. Also, Will finalize the components today after getting quotes from him. :D

So, I went to that store and these are prices that he quoted me. All are including taxes.

Processor + MoboIntel i5 4440 + Asus B85M-G18,850
Processor + MoboIntel i5-4440 + Asus H81M-CS17,450
MemoryKingston HyperX Fury DDR3 8 GB 1600 MHz4,250
Graphics CardAsus GTX 750TI 2GB DDR5 OC11,450
Power SupplyCorsair CX5004,550
HDDWD Green 1 TB 7200 RPM HDD3,850

He is yet to give me a quote for GTX960 and Antec VP550P. Also, He said that he will take care of RMA if anything goes wrong when under warranty.

I see the prices are more or less similar to online stores except for the CX500 and i5-4440 + H81 socket Mobo.

I can decide on what to buy only after I get the quotes of GTX 960 and Antec VP550P.

Any comments on these prices??

Hi Shah,

For more information about WD internal HDD, I would like to add some word in it. We all are aware that each of WD HDD has different specification for use. The WD Blue drive is use of normal computing, daily use drives, solid performance and budget drive. WD Blue HDD models are available from 250GB to 1TB. The WD Green HDD has preferred for data storage, backup, save power and quiet environment. WD Green drive models are available from 500GB to 6TB.

The following colors describe the specifications for WD HDD:

WD Blue = Solid performance

WD Green = Energy saving , backups and storage use

I know, WD green is what I need now. :)

BTW, Any opinions on the prices ?

Got a reply from the dealer.

i5-4440 + Gigabyte H81M-S1 - 16250
Antec VP550P - 4250
Asus Nvidia GTX 960 2GB - 17450

So, I have decided to go for i5-4440 + Gigabyte H81M-S1, WD Green 1TB. Will try to bargain PSU and GPU. If he can give me GTX 960 for <17k, I'd buy it or else GTX 750 TI, it is.

These are expensive. Your dealer is looting you.
Can't you check online for those components?
There was an offer going on amazon on Intel i5 4440 for 12k approx. Also the gpu gtx960 shouldn't be more than 15k. And if you try harder then you can get that antec psu for less than 4k

Yeah I know. That's why I said I am going to bargain for PSU and GPU. Regarding i5-4440, He quoted 16250 for the processor with H81M-S1 motherboard. Even If I buy it online, the combo will set me back by 16k (12.5k + 3.5k) + shipping. So, I feel it is fair. I will buy the HDD from online that would save me a few hundreds.

AFAIK, there isn't an online store that sells GTX960 2GB DDR5 for less than 16.5k. I don't think it is possible to get it for less than 15k.

So, Once again visited the dealer's store and have paid for the following items. He said that he will deliver it tomorrow itself. :bananana: :bananana: :bananana:

Processor + MoboIntel i5 4440 +Gigabyte H81M-S116,250
Graphics CardGTX 960 2GB DDR517,450
Power SupplyAntec VP550P3,900
HDDWD Green 1 TB 7200 RPM HDD3,850
Total41,450

If I had bought the same from online stores, it would have set me back by 40k + shipping. Anyway, I feel that the 1-day-delivery guarantee is worth the extra money paid. Also, Warranty claim and RMA won't be much of a problem as the dealer has said that he would handle it completely.
