Dear TDF Members,

Hope you all are doing well. As the title suggests, I want to go for a Mobo+CPU upgrade.

I am running a 1060 AMP edition right now and I am planning to upgrade to a 1070/1070Ti/Vega 56 equivalent by 2020 end.

I need a CPU that can get the best out of my current 1060 and the future GPU upgrade I mentioned. I have shortlisted the following options. I dont want to spend money on a CPU upgrade for at least next 5 years.

R7 2700X + B350 Mobo ( 35-36K Approx)

I7 8700K+ MSI Z370 A-Pro + Hyper 212 ( 40-41K Approx)

I5 8600K + MSI Z370 A-pro + Hyper 212( 33-34 K Approx)

Please suggest.

PS : currently I have G4560+B250+Hyper X 2400 Mhz RAM

Thanks,
Abhijit

R7 2700x + X370 mobo instead of B350 (x470 if price difference isn't much). Also, you should get a 650W psu (RM650x or CX650) for that config.

Already have a 650W PSU. Why the 2700X over 8700K/8600K. Mind you, I am just gaming and there is zero productivity work.

Because
Intel's 9th or 10th gen probably would have 8 core i7s, 6 core i5s and 4 core i3s (all could be hyper-threaded as well).

Agreed, however, Intel can clock higher and has better IPC, isn't it a better choice for gaming ?.

At the moment, yes. 8700k is the best processor for gaming. You probably could use 8700k + a good Z370 mobo with adequate cooling for a stretch of 5-6 years.
