Upgrade suggestion please

My old system was:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+
MSI K9 SLI Platinum
AMD Radeon 5670
450W Corsair VS450 PSU
4x1GB DDR2
PCI TV Tuner card
4x SATA HDD
1x SATA ODD

Primary use: HTPC,
Secondary use: Online work (my chrome generally has 12-15 tabs open)
Tertiary use: RTS games (hardly any FPS)

The MoBo conked off. Bios corrupted. SATA Controller issue. 1 memory slot not working.

I am not getting any Socket AM2 MoBo as replacement. If anyone has any info of getting one in Kolkata, or online, would be a great help.

========================================================

In case a replacement MoBo is not available, and an upgrade of core components is inevitable (CPU+MoBo+RAM), please suggest a configuration.

What I came up with is:
AMD 4 GHz AM3+ FX-4300
Gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3
2x G.Skill NS DDR3 2 GB (DDR3-1333/PC3-10600)

It is coming to under 15K, which is my budget.

=============================

An alternative configuration is:
AMD 3.5 GHz AM3+ FX-6300
Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3P
2x G.Skill RipjawsX DDR3 2 GB (DDR3-1600/PC3-12800)

I would salivate at this config, but as it is a beyond my budget, unless the performance difference is really noticeable, I would rather save the money.

But if the performance difference is not marginal, but really noticeable, then I would spend the 4k extra and get this setup.

==============================

Please give me your suggestions on performance, pros and cons, and alternate components which would balance value for money & performance.

P.S. I do not overclock. Stock settings all the way.

Thanks in advance!

1. What is the purpose of the computer? What all applications and games are you going to run? (Stupid answers like 'gaming' or 'office work' will not work. Be exact. Which games? Which applications? Avoid the word 'et cetera.')
Ans:
Primary use: HTPC,
Secondary use: Online work (my chrome generally has 12-15 tabs open)
Tertiary use: RTS games (hardly any FPS)

2. What is your overall budget? If you can extend a bit for a more balanced configuration, then mention this too.
Ans:
15,000 INR

3. Planning to overclock?
Ans:
No. Only stock settings.

4. Which Operating System are you planning to use?
Ans:
Win7

5. How much hard drive space is needed?
Ans:

6. Do you want to buy a monitor? If yes, please mention which screen size and resolution do you want. If you already have a monitor and want to reuse it, again mention the size and resolution of monitor you have.
Ans:
No

7. Which components you DON'T want to buy or which components you already have and plan on reusing?
Ans:

450W Corsair VS450 PSU
4x1GB DDR2
PCI TV Tuner card
4x SATA HDD
1x SATA ODD

8. When are you planning to buy the system?
Ans:
By Feb 2015

9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler?
Ans:
I have built all my computers.

10. Where do you live? Are you buying locally? Are you open to buying stuff from online shops if you don't get locally?
Ans:
Kolkata; Yes to online.

11. Anything else which you would like to say?

There is a reason why we ask to fill the questionnaire - CONVENIENCE. If we had the time and patience to find ll answers in OP we wouldn't had asked to fill the questionnaire. Edit the questionnaire and fill it properly.

you cant use use your current 4gb ddr2 ram with new boards as new boards will come with ddr3 support only. you may get fx 6300,gigabyte 970a ds3p and kingston hyperx fury 4gb/gskill ripjawsx/corsair vengeance. make sure you use your old gpu as you wont get display without a dgpu.

But how much would the performance be boosted in this config, over the 1st config I mentioned (AMD 4 GHz AM3+ FX-4300 + Gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3 + 2x G.Skill NS DDR3 2 GB). Would it be enough of a performance boost to justify the extra 4-5k INR?

Also, would my 450W PSU be enough to run the 2nd combo (AMD 3.5 GHz AM3+ FX-6300 + Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3P + 2x G.Skill RipjawsX DDR3 2 GB)?

GIGABYTE GA-H81M-S2PH is no longer available AFAIK. Also, is it prudent to use AMD GPU (which I already have) with Intel Chipset?

A related query:

Which MoBo should be preferred, and why?

MSI 970A-G46
Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3
Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3P
ASUS M5A97 LE R2.0

All are in the INR 6000-6500 range.

you cant insert an amd cpu into a mobo with intel chipset. you need to have a compatible mobo.
either get the i3 rig suggested by harshil or get fx 6300 along with the suggested mobo(make sure you use your dedicate gpu as the 970 based mobo do not have igpu.)
fx 4300 is inferior to i3 and fx 6300 and their price is worth over it.
if GIGABYTE GA-H81M-S2PH is not available, you can get GIGABYTE GA-H81M-S2PV

I know that sir, I was asking if it is prudent to use AMD GPU (not CPU, but the Radeon HD 5670, which I already have) with Intel Chipset?

oops. my bad. i read it as cpu. my bad eyes :( sorry for that.
yes you can use that gpu. it will work without any problem.

my pick will be gigabyte 970a ds3p. or asus m5a97 evo non-LE version. LE version is a stripped down non-Le version which i do not recommend.

Ok, choices confusing me even more!

Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3P
AMD FX 6300
2x2GB = 4GB (G.Skill RipjawsX 1600)

or

Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3P
AMD FX 4300
2x4GB= 8GB (G.Skill RipjawsX 1600)

Both coming to same price. Which would be a better choice for my usage?
Primary use: HTPC (I would be using my existing Radeon HD 5670)
Secondary use: Online work (my chrome generally has 12-15 tabs open)
Tertiary use: RTS games (hardly any FPS)

Which config would be best suited for my VS450 PSU (no over-clocking)?

get what harshilsharma suggested. You aren't gaming so FX6300 would ultimately go to waste IMO. Also get one 4GB stick for now and get another later on.

Damn my greed!

I cried,
I pleaded,
I fought,
I begged,
I borrowed,
I stole...

And finally ordered the following components!

Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3P
AMD FX 6300
2x4GB= 8GB (G.Skill RipjawsX 1600)

Now I hope I get at least roti achar twice everyday to tide away the rest of the days of the month.

Else would beg during the day, game during the night.
