Hi!
I have PIII 600 Mhz PC with 128 MB RAM & Tomato 810 Mobo. I want to upgrade to AMD 64 bit. Asked the dealers about it and all of them suggest 2800+ & MSI mobo kit for Rs. 8750. The mobo has via chipset. I dont want via chipset as nvidia is my choice but it wasn't available with any of the AMD dealers. Plz suggest a mobo with nvidia graphics.
Prices:
AMD 2800+ 64 bit+ MSI mobo- 8750
AMD 2800+ 64 bit+ ASUS X series mobo- 8750+500
RAM 512 MB- 2000(+200 for hynix)

Please suggest some boards with nvidia graphics.Thanks!

There are none ,which comes with onboard graphics from nvidia , when AMD 64 is in question,i would suggest NOT to go for an onboard solution, but if you do wanna get something good .there is the xpress chipset from ATI which has an inbuilt x300 graphics core in the northbridge and the ULi southbridge,you can also upgrade to a xpress graphics card later on,

But the thing that you must keep in mind is that , the major benifit of having a AMD 64 is the onboard memory contrtoller , Direct Connect architecture as they call it , and if you use an onboard solution , the memory bandwidth and latnency is going to increase and give u lower performance , Its your call mate :)

Short on budget=> onboard display
else go for mobo w/o onboard display and buy a good graphics card, but do that keeping in mind the future..... means after how much time u plan to make ur next upgrade???
If u plan for onboard graphics and wish to buy a graphics card later then go with mobo PCi-e sloti think INDRO has suggeted same and the mobo is
MSI-RS480..:).

Get a mobo with NO graphics onboard. Get a cheap graphics card (fx5200, r9200) preferably second hand. Upgrade graphics later when budget permits.

Hi guys! thanks for the suggestions. My upgrade budget is 20000 & i think msi rs480m2 is a nice mobo. I don't wanna spend on graphics card right now.
So should I go for msi rs480m2? What power supply you guys suggest?
Also from where can I know approx price of 3000+(939), msi rs480m2, 512 MB hynix ram?
And any msi dealer in Ludhiana from where i can buy rs480m2?

@ akshayt r u in ur sense, y u seem to force ur suggestions??? i have seen that many times in ur post.
@narangz powersupply=> minimum 400, and if u can fit in ur budget then u might increase it. But buy powersupply of good company. Do not try to overclock, if u do not know as that might cancel ur warranty on mobo and proc.
Approx prices
MSI-RS480 =>6.5K
3000+ => 6.5K
512 ram hynix=> 2.3K

Hi guys!
@akshayt.. Well I am not interested in overclocking, so thats not a problem for me. Secondly, currently I don't have the budget to buy a nice graphics card. Anyway thanks for the suggestion.

@wizrulz.. I will opt for 400W smps, is iball good? I talked to the dealers and no one had msi-rs480. Emailed priya & cyberstar but no reply. Thanks for the price list buddy!

@narangz
processor - take 2800+,
and for ram i would suggest you to take 256MB(ddr400) now and after sometime put more if u need,
that way u can cut your budget n take a graphics card :wink:

take 400/450w SMPS,
n iball is not good, they just look good sometime, i will not recommend iball.
try NAVTECH :D, their cabinets are very good.

Hi guys! I have searched all the dealers i can but haven't found 3000+ 939 & MSI rs480m2. So mailed Tirupati Enterprises(Calcutta) & got reply from Abhishek Kejriwal <abhishek@tirupati.net>.
The reply says that they'll send both to me through Blue Dart insured by TATA AIG if i deposit the money in their HDFC account. 3000+ is for 7000+taxes & mobo for 5200+taxes. Tax @ 4%. Has anyone ordered from them like this? Should I go for their offer? Please suggest
Thanks!

Well, Rs480 is a good motherboard for the price but it has some limitations.
Its memory performance is not good compared to VIA or NF3/4. Its USB performance is even poorer.
Its still a solid motherboard.

If you are interested in a couple of month old 3200+ASUS A8V Dlx then have a look at my thread is sell/buy.

GENERIC POWERSUPPLY IS GOOD ENOUGH FOR NORMAL WORKING ENVIORMENTS. I have been using I's cabinet for all my 4 PC's for more than 2years now and with no probs. Even my Athlon O/C'd rig runs on Generic I smps which came with the casing. The m/c is fully loaded with ATX mobo, DVDRW,DVD-CDRW combo,Geforce FX 5200 256mb,PCI LAN card,Creative Live 5.1,PCI Modem, 2x 80 gb ata hdd's, 1 fdd, neon lights, coolermaster heatsink, 5 extra fans.

My hitachi 19" monitor is plugged directly into the wall socket (not to smps).

Lets take a calculation : POWER REQUIREMENTS.

Processor : 50 - 70w
mobo : 15-20 w
pci cards each : 2 to 5 w
creatice live : 5-7 w
cd/dvdr : 8 w each
hdd : 2-5 w
tuner : 2-5 w
addl.fans : 2- watts each
agp : 35 - 85 w

total consumption : 230 watts max.
considering the facts that these are the max cosumption, and are not simultaneous, the average consumption will be aorund 150-160 watts.

a generic 300w rated power supply can give output of around 180watts.
even ANTEC 500 is able to output 320w//

SO WHAT IS THE PROBLEM IN USING GENERIC PSU'S ????

ONLY THING IS U HAVE TO KEEP A GOOD UPS..( THIS IS FOR ALL UPS'S)..
ANYTHING CAN BURN ...I LIVE IN AN INDUSTRIAL AREA,WHERE LOT OF POWER FLUCTUATION IS NORMAL, STILL NO UPS, AND NO BURNING MY SMPS..VERY HAPPY WITH IT..NO PROBLEMS..THOSE WHO HAVE LOT OF CASH, INVEST IN GOOD SMPS'S.

OTHERWISE, JUST OPEN THE CASE OF A WELL KNOWN BRAND, AND A GENERIC ONE, AND LOOK INTO IT...AND U CAN SEE URSELF, THE DIFFERENCE...
