my pc has a type c usb port...does this port really offer faster charging/data transfer speeds versus usb type 3 ports etc..and if so..please advice a good brand usb type c dock which can accomodate multiple ports like sd card reader, hdmi and usb type 3.0.thanks

The port on laptop needs to be wired appropriately for specific tech to work. Type-c is just a connector. It can be USB 2.0, USB 3.1, USB 3.2, thunderbolt 3 or even displayport (which is required for display out, correct me if I'm wrong). I got a type-c to 4 port USB 3.0 hub because the one in mine is just a USB 3.1 gen 1 data only port (no power). The connector is reversible and that's the only benefit as of now.

I can't suggest anything randomly but can say that it should work okay with a normal hub (no mixed ports).

Not all type C ports are same, most of them are USB 3.1 these days, likely has a display protocol as well. Likely your laptop won't support charging via type C as it would be lacking USB PD protocols.

Honestly tough to say which protocols it supports, or if it even has a display support, might be skimped in budget laptops. Using it as a hub for more USB ports & a card reader should be possible in any port, but not others. Something like a Thunderbolt 3 on type C port supports multiple displays & external GPU as well. So more versatile.

At least mention which laptop you have.

It's a cheap laptop, 35k laptop here is $350-400 laptop in the US which is pretty cheap by world standards. So it has just a data transfer port, no USB PD (so no charging) & likely no display output (need Display Port over Type C protocol).

It is a data only port, so file transfer is by default enabled. Coming to charging, I don't think it'll supply more than 5V 0.5A or 1A at best. Your phone's stock charger will be faster (unless its an iphone).
