Hey guys,

I am a hardcore desktop user. I have used/been using various AMD (OC'd) rigs for almost 8+ years. This is the first time I'm gonna buy a laptop and first time I'm gonna get an Intel CPU machine. I would like to get a suggestion from the community. I use the system mostly for my personal use and rarely I'll use it play games like AoE-III, AoM, GTA IV alike. Here is my filled questionnaire,

1) What is your budget?
Maximum 60,000 INR.

2) What size & weight consideration (if any) would you prefer?
No Preference.

3) What are the primary tasks will you be performing with this notebook?
Running Multiple VMs, Malware Analysis, Reverse Engineering/Brute Forcing attack simulation, Cross Compiling tasks.

4) Any typical configuration in your mind you're eying for ?
Intel Core i7 - 4th Gen (Quad Core), 750GB/1TB HDD, 8GB RAM, 2GB GPU

5) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like?
Preferably: ASUS
Any other brand with good reputation is also OK.

6) Anything else you would like to say?
Battery Backup 3/+ hours
USB 3 Ports
Possibly Less Heat

Additional Notes: I thought of buying the laptop "Lenovo Z510 (59-398016)". But some of the reviews provided below has stopped me from buying the laptop. Are these problems are solved or still a persistence issue? Is it good to buy the Lenovo z510 laptop right now?

I just posted in Lenovo's Facebook page (*www.facebook.com/LenovoIndia/posts/10204191406330317) and got a crazy reply, "This is an issue that can crop up in any laptop. You have nothing to worry about. If you need any other assistance, please let us know." - lol :D

And also, I can see in their Facebook Page, many random and weird complaints from different customers without any reply from Lenovo people. I would like to know, If anybody bought (recently) the "Lenovo Z510 (59-398016)" and facing any issues? If everything is fine, I can just go buy this one.

Thanks In Advance :)

Dear seamon,

I see you have a Y500 laptop. I want to buy a laptop withing 60 K budget and dell 3537 and lenovo y510p (i5)caught my eye.
But as a brand I heard that Lenovo is plagued with a lot a hardware defects and they have poor after sale service.

I want your opinion which one should I go for dell or lenovo one?

What you have heard are rumours.
Lenovo has one of the best after sales service in India. Lenovo has one the best build quality among all laptops which is at par with apple.
Dell Inspiron 15/15R 3537 is not recommended due to sub-par build quality and driver issues. Besides it has a poor performing CPU.

@seamon
Thanks for the reply. To increase the budget to 70K I have to wait for a month or two. If there is nothing else to buy in that price, I would like to know more about the "Lenovo Z510 (59-398016)". As you said,

If those all are rumours, I can buy the "Lenovo Z510", I feel it's really value for the money. Or else I have to convince myself to go for my preferred brand "ASUS" > Asus X550LC-XX160D [OR] Asus X550LC-XX223D
Please give a suggestion.

If anybody else who bought "Lenovo Z510 (59-398016)" and doesn't find any issues, Please give a feedback. It'll be really helpful for me.

Thanks :)

seamon So I see that U highly recommend Lenovo Y510P products to Dell one.
But I dont want to fork out more than 60K at this point of time. How is the GPU and CPU performance of i5 variant of the model compared to dell 3537 i7 model? What I understand that i5 4200M is slightly powerful than dell i7 4500U .
Your expert review is solicited. Thx

p.s I am a not a hard core gamer and happy as long as latest games runs in medium /high settings.

Both models have almost same performance. If you are not a gamer then 1080p screen of Y510p is recommended for multi-tasking. Med is what you should be looking at.

Sorry I could not get you. Can you please elucidate?

Also I heard there are some Driver issues with Dell laptops. Did you face any such ordeal?

Expecting latest games to run at high is too much to ask for in this budget. You should expect games to run at med. Otherwise you can wait for Maxwell.
The driver issues on 2013 Dell laptops are terrifying. You should stay away. I still have nightmares about them. xD

Sorry for a late reply here but I can't PM you

I own this : 59-405848 version so I cannot comment about that i7 processor It is equally good and 8gb Ram :D

GT740 is good for budget gamers. You can easily play bf3 or bf4 on ultra(or high = good fps). But keep the bells and whistles such as HBAO scaling and MSAA to off and you are good to go

Body is pretty nice with metal finish.

My opinion. : :) Go buy it
