1. What is the purpose of the computer? What all applications and games are you going to run?
Ans: Purpose - Programming (Eclipse, Visual Studio.) , GFX (Photoshop), Gaming (Battlefield, Warframe, COD, etc)

2. What is your overall budget? If you can extend a bit for a more balanced configuration, then mention this too.
Ans: Give or take 30k, I already own a GTX 760

3. Planning to overclock?
Ans: Maybe.

4. Which Operating System are you planning to use?
Ans: Dual Boot Windows 8.1 and Ubuntu

5. How much hard drive space is needed?
Ans: A minimum of 1TB, might add an SSD later.

6. Do you want to buy a monitor? If yes, please mention which screen size and resolution do you want. If you already have a monitor and want to reuse it, again mention the size and resolution of monitor you have.
Ans: Yes, an IPS LED of about 22" would be nice.

7. Which components you DON'T want to buy or which components you already have and plan on reusing?
Ans: Keyboard, Mouse, GPU (I already own a GTX 760)

8. When are you planning to buy the system?
Ans: Within two months.

9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler?
Ans: I have built pcs before. I will also make this one myself.

10. Where do you live? Are you buying locally? Are you open to buying stuff from online shops if you don't get locally?
Ans: Locally (Shillong , Guwahati) or online. Which ever is cheaper.

11. Anything else which you would like to say?
Ans: I will be doing quite a lot of gaming and programming. A better cooler would be preferable. AMD or Intel which ever fits the budget.

What are the Pros and Cons of the "Intel Core i3 4150" over the "AMD FX 6300" ?

The FX6300 is 7.7k (6 physical weak cores)
The i3 4150 is 7.8k (2+2HT cores)
The FX8320 is 11.1k (8 physical weak cores)

If you are going to overclock the FX6300, you'll end up paying WAY more than the i3 since you'll need a decent motherboard + dedicated GPU and aftermarket cooler. The i3 will still beat a heavily overclocked FX most of the time.

The i3 offers a much better upgrade path since the FX platform is dead.

There is actually not one single advantage to getting the FX.

Hi wakkun,

I agree with bssunil. Based on your requirement, the Intel i3 series is the way to go. The Intel i3 series is better than Amd FX series because of its hyper-threading feature, which allows each CPU core to execute two threads simultaneously. The Amd CPU operating frequency of the microprocessor is higher than the frequency of the Intel i3 CPU, as a speed result Amd CPU is a faster than Intel CPU. In terms of performance, Intel i3 series is better than Amd FX series in most applications.

Hope it helps.

If I were to pick this build, what kind of upgrades would I be able to do in the future?

You can have upto 16gb of ram (mobo dependant), upto a GTX 960 (i3 4150 would be a bottleneck for anything above it), any LGA1150 socket CPU and no of hdd/ssd depending on the no of SATA 3/sata 6 connectors.

If I were to get an i5 centered rig instead, how much would I have to increase my budget by? Also please tell me what parts I should get.

In case you need a good GPU which can run games for 2-3 years then go with Asus GTX 960 Strix 2GB -17000. This is an extra upgrade or you can simply go with Zotac GTX 750Ti 2GB -11000.

GTX 960 2GB or GTX 750Ti 2GB.

Are there any cheap boards that support SLI? The Gigabyte B85M-D3H only supports CrossFire.

Nope. I guess you are thinking about getting a mid-range GOU now and adding another one in future. If it is so, then let me tell you that in 99% of situation people never do so. As you already have a GTX 760, stick with it. It's good enough for playing all games at 900p at medium settings or 720p at high settings.

SLI or Crossfire in todays gaming scenario is not at all recommended as you require a 1440p high performing monitor.

Really? You need 1440p high performance monitor for SLI?
