See uc an use 400mhz stick but it will not be any use as ur mobo will not run it at 400Mhz...it will run at slowest speed stick on the board .i.e. 266Mhz...
So if u r ready to compromise then do it....

better sell ur 266 Mhz stick and but two 512 or two 256 400Mhz ...that will serve u better ;)

bro listen, ur 512 mb ram wil work if it wil be of 266mhz otherwise not.
n if u want to upgrade ur ram thn buy another 256 mb coz if u wil buy other than 256 thn it wil consume different voltage n u wil nt get the boost. another option sell 256 n buy 512.

It will work, but not at 4oo mhz. Also sometimes due to mismatch freqency there can be problems.Preferably use both the ram sticks from the same manufacturer & of same freqency.

Romeo + Lucifer = ME
See it is best that both the ram modules are of the same chipset, same memory size n of the same company to avoid any conflicts

Thanks for the reply.

But i am confused with the answers. :(
If i use 512MB 400MHz ram stick with 256 MB 266Mhz , except for compromising for speed is there any other prob which i will face.:!:
