Hello all, I am new to this forum. Please help in solving the problem in my pc. When I am playing multimedia files(let it be audio or video) with players (let it be winmedia player or winamp or any player (with new codecs)also), it stops after playing some time and tells the program performed an illegal operation and needs to be closed. This happens especially when I add new files in the playlist, change the volume level(let it be in the hardware, software(player)). The similar behaviour is observed in the simple applications like msword, pdf reading. This is the same behaviour with any os like windows(98,me,xp), mandriva, redhat, fedora, debian, etc. The system many times restarted/Hangs suddenly. The xp takes much time to boot usually. My system configuration Intel pentium4, 3.0GHz, ram 512MB, Hard disk 80GB,WriteMaster DVD writer Mother Board Mercury P4VM800M7(VIA chipset) with Realtek AC'97 Audio Can anybody tell why this problem happens. What is the remedy?

Your system is having good configuration. This seems to be systems instability issue due to various reasons:
1.First main cause could be Video graphics instability. So reinstall video drivers and update them from corresponding websites.
2.Use good registry cleaner. It will fix all registry errors.
3.This problem is also caused by Spyware. Install good Antispyware like SpyBot and scan whole system.

If problem persists, do revert back.

I usually re-install the os very often, so that the problem level is minimal.
Even then, I can visualise the problem on the same day of installing os and motherboard.
Thank you ravi, for that hijack file. I will post that log file.

1) I think the launchpad.exe is unnecessary. Just put a tick to it and fix it.
2) The entries in green are programs (Safe programs) starting automatically with windows and consuming memory. If you don't want any of the above programs to start automatically, you may want to stop them running automatically.
3) Don't rely on windows security center, try to install NOD32 Antivirus or kaspersky, both have very good detection rates.

Click start > run and type services.msc

You will see list of services that are starting automatically. Then you may visit this link and decide which services to run automatically, manually or disabled ...
