prefetching problems in windowxp sp2

I accidently deleted all the files from prefetch folder. Now windows starting is slow. Drefragmenter also is not up to the mark. How can I restart prefetching .

Prefetched files will start improving your comps performance in about 1 or 2 weeks... Some recommend that you delete the prefetch folder once in a while (especially if you add/remove programs frequently)... Unless you have DISABLED prefetching (which, from what you indicate, you havent), you dont have a thing to worry about... Just keep using the programs regularly and in a short while, things should be back to normal...

sakumar is right. if u have just deleted the prefetcher files, dont worry. things will be back to normal in a few days; as its is u will hardly notice any difference. in fact i clear the prefetcher every few weeks.

in case u have inadvertantly disabled the prefetcher
open regedit. navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\PrefetchParameters
ensure that the value of the EnablePrefetcher is 3.

The allowable values for EnablePrefetcher are:
0 Disable Prefetcher
1 Application launch prefetching
2 Boot prefetching
3 Both application and boot prefetching

also ensure that ur task schedular service is on automatic, for i THINK that it it is disabled, the prefetching doz not work.
