Please help me in buying a laptop

Hello guys,

I need you help again.I am very thankful that you have helped me earlier too.

I neep to buy a laptop,with a tight budget.

I don't need a branded laptop.Assembled will do.

I will be using the laptop for word processing,excel sheet calculations,image editing,browsing internet(on LAN as well as wireless/GPRS),reading ebooks,occasionally music.

No games to be installed on the laptop,strictly for formal work.

For now,I will install Linux as OS and OpenOffice.org as replacement for OS and MS Office.May be I will buy microsoft products later(after a year or two!).

Harddisk capacity 30 GB will be more than sufficient.

RAM 512 MB or 1 GB needed

USB ports,Modem,DVD:reader + writer needed

Processor: AMD turion 64


Please give your opinion considering my circumstances.
If possible,please approximate the cost.I live in Thane(near Mumbai).

Hey its the wrong section. U should have posted it in Laptops thread in Mobile Monster.

Anywayz as for assembled laptops i dont knw and i think Dell customizes it for ur needs from among the options avlbl, bt i dont know if u can call that assembling.

Anywayz as for ur requiement, u can get such models in compaq. I dont remember the exact model (Was something a V13...) number but its config match exacly as such urs. Got this one for my friend few months ago

Its AMD turion 1.6 Ghz, 512 MB RAM, 60 GB HDD, DVD writer, 14.1".

All this was for 29K
