1. What is the purpose of the computer? What all applications and games are you going to run? (Stupid answers like 'gaming' or 'office work' will not work. Be exact. Which games? Which applications? Avoid the word 'et cetera.')
Ans: Browsing (lots and lots tabs opened at same time on multiple browsers), Gaming in future (10 year Kids may get into games in couple of years), need fast boot and shutdown performance

2. What is your overall budget? If you can extend a bit for a more balanced configuration, then mention this too.
Ans: 25K. May get upto 30K to make it extendable for few more years)

3. Planning to overclock?
Ans: No

4. Which Operating System are you planning to use?
Ans: Win 7 64 bit

5. How much hard drive space is needed?
Ans: I have a new Samsung 840 EVO 250 GB for this upgrade and WD SATA 500gb (WD5000AADS) and Seagate 200GB IDE on my existing machine. So no more HDD needed.

6. Do you want to buy a monitor? If yes, please mention which screen size and resolution do you want. If you already have a monitor and want to reuse it, again mention the size and resolution of monitor you have.
Ans: I want to use existing Viewsonics 19inch VA1928wm monitor.

7. Which components you DON'T want to buy or which components you already have and plan on reusing?
Ans: I am planning to reuse the below components

Monitor – Viewsonics 19inch VA1928wm
HDD - Samsung 840 EVO 250 GB (newly purchased)
HDD – WD SATA 500gb (WD5000AADS)
HDD – Seagate 200GB IDE
DVD WIRTER – LG SecurDisc
PSU – Frontech JIL-2414i 450w
CASE - iBall

8. When are you planning to buy the system?
Ans: Immediately

9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler?
Ans: Got it built by an assembler.

10. Where do you live? Are you buying locally? Are you open to buying stuff from online shops if you don't get locally?
Ans: Bangalore. I am open to buying components locally as well as online.

11. Anything else which you would like to say?
Ans:
I have an AMD machine now so I am leaning towards Intel this time.
CPU - Intel i5 4440 or 4460. Open to suggestions
Motherboard – any compatible one. Looking for lot of USB ports and support for USB 3.0
RAM – 4GB or 8GB
GPU – If possible, don’t want to install one but get a good one in future.

I want the machine not to be a noisy one but a silent affair and not a power/energy hungry.

Thanks,
KK

Hi anjukumar,

Based on your requirement, I think no need to go with Intel i5 series. The normal CPU will fulfill your requirements.
Example:
1) Intel i3 - 4150.
2) Intel Pentium G-3258.

For the motherboard, I’d suggest you to go with the latest MOBO because It helps you for the future proofing rig.
1) Gigabyte GA-Z97N-WIFI.
2) MSI Z87-GD65 Gaming.

Example: In the future you want to add the GPU, RAM or other card in system, If you have the latest MOBO that means in the future, you can add-on a second GPU card or RAM for performance, instead of buying a new MOBO.

For RAM, you can go with any brand. Just buy 2 sticks of 4GB (DDR3-1600). if you run 2 RAM sticks, you will be running memory in dual channel which will be a greater increase in performance than running a single stick in single channel.

Hope it helps.

> What exactly do you mean by this? Its' not that you can add GPU only on the latest mobo. And what exactly do you mean by latest mobo? It won't be latest when you purchase the GPU in future. No matter how old your board is you can still use ANY graphic card in the world with PCIe connector. So please avoid vague statements. No offense whatsoever, just trying to keep things technically valid.

> Now comping back to OP, like @WK_WD said, there is no need of an i5 for your needs. An i3 even with the integrated graphics will perfectly suffice the gaming needs of a 10-12 year old boy. Heck, it even suffices mine :p

> My suggestion - forum's 30k config excluding monitor and HDD

I am most likely going with Intel Core i5 4460, Corsair Vengeance 8GB, Deepcool Tesseract and Antec VP550P. Haven't yet decided on motherboard and not planning to have any GPU.

very good choice. msi h97 guard pro is a very good mobo but it might cost 8k also there are some good mobo in 5k to 6k range like asus b85m and gigabyte b85m

There is absolutely no need of an i5 here. An i3 is perfectly enough. Anyways, it;s your money, your decision.
