My friends need new laptops for college. One of them is doing VISCOM and needs a laptop for editing videos, Adobe Premier Pro, Photoshop and stuff and basic gaming. The other guy needs a laptop for game development and light gaming. Both of them will be playing basic games like CS:GO, PubG, FIFA, etc.

1) What is your budget? (INR or USD)
Both of them have similar budget of around 65k₹ They're willing to pay more if the performance is that much better.

2) What size & weight consideration (if any) would you prefer?
  • Netbook; 11" - 10” screen or less
  • Thin and Light; 12" - 14" screen
  • Mainstream; 15" - 16" screen
  • Desktop Replacement; 17"+ screen
Mainstream 15"

3) What are the primary tasks you will be performing with this notebook?

1. Light gaming, Video editing and photoshop.
2. Light gaming, Game development

5) Any typical configuration in your mind you're eying for?
A 1050 or 1050ti gpu with an 8th gen i5 or i7 cpu

4) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like?
a. Like: None
b. Dislike: None

6) Anything else you would like to say?
  • Screen resolution ( 768p (HD) / 900p / 1080p (Full HD) )
  • Battery back up ( normal (3-4hrs) / extended (5-7hrs) )
  • Purchase place ( Online (eg - flipkart, infibeam) / Local / Abroad (do mention the country) )
Full HD, extended preffered but normal is also okay and India(local/online doesn't matter).

They've narrowed down to three laptops.
1. Asus FX503 Core i7 7th Gen - (8 GB/1 TB HDD/Windows 10 Home/4 GB Graphics) FX503VD-DM111T Gaming Laptop Rs.72990 Price in India - Buy Asus FX503 Core i7 7th Gen - (8 GB/1 TB HDD/Windows 10 Home/4 GB Graphics) FX503VD-DM111T Gaming Laptop Black Online - Asus : Flipkart.com
2. Acer Predator Helios 300 Core i5 8th Gen - (8 GB/1 TB HDD/128 GB SSD/Windows 10 Home/4 GB Graphics) PH315-51 Gaming Laptop Rs.84990 Price in India - Buy Acer Predator Helios 300 Core i5 8th Gen - (8 GB/1 TB HDD/128 GB SSD/Windows 10 Home/4 GB Graphics) PH315-51 Gaming Laptop Black Online - Acer : Flipkart.com

The choice is between an 8th gen i5 8300h + 1050ti vs 7th gen i7 7700hq +1050.
For editing which one would be preferred? Is a CPU more important or a GPU? Which one has better service?

Thanks a lot.

8300H and 7700HQ are basically the same:
Intel® Product Specification Comparison
For rendering, a CPU would be more important.
Don't skip on ssd at any cost. If the price difference is significant, it would make more sense to just buy a 860 evo m.2 drive and use it on the empty m.2 slot.

For premier and photoshop, check if the laptop screens have good colour accuracy (which is generally better with IPS panels).

I'd say get a laptop without SSD and add in 860 EVO, the SSD that comes preinstalled in most laptops are pathetic compared to 860EVO

@SaiyanGoku Thanks. Since both the processors are basically the same it makes more sense to get the Helios 300, right? It has an IPS panel too. I believe Acer has better service when compared to both MSI and Asus in India.

@Neravarine Do you have any such laptop in your mind? The Asus and the MSI one's have an inferior GPU and screen. The Acer one has an SSD preinstalled. I guess it also has another m.2 slot. Maybe upgrade later but for now, that'll suffice right?

Acer does have better after sales than MSI for sure, but similar to Asus in India IMO.

The Predator is a great choice at 62k in the ongoing sale.
