how to make ur tvtuner work with vista MCE
a lot of people here might be interested to use EPG in MCE
here is how to make ur supporting tvtuner work with vista mce
requirements for a tuner(non hardware mpeg2 encoder) to work with vista MCE:
1. a tvtuner that has PCI AUDIO device i.e. audio is routed from PCI bus without the need of audio patch cord
& supporting driver that enables PCI AUDIO device.
almost all new tuners from pinnacle, compro, leadtek support PCI AUDIO function in hardware. What u need is drivers that enable PCI AUDIO device.
Currently almost all new drivers(vmhybrid ones) from compro enable PCI AUDIO by default on supporting compro cards.
e.g tuners like compro videomate tv gold plus 2,leadtek winfast TV2000 xp global supports PCI AUDIO.
2. a vista certified MPEG-2 software encoder
like
a.cyberlink MPEG MCE ENCODER
b.ARCSOFT MPEG ENCODER + DECODER
C.OEM ARECOFT MPEG ENCODER ONLY
D.mainconcept MPEG encoder
SETUP STEPS
1. uninstall any other PVR application like COMPRO DTV,winfast PVR,chris tv etc...
2.install mpeg2 encoder of ur choice.Make sure u install only one encoder at a time.If u want to try another one then first uninstall previos MPEG encoder..
3.install latest drivers for ur tvtuner. If ur tvtuner supports PCI audio device in hardware & drivers then only it would work with vista MCE.
now u are done just run MCE app. to check whether ur card is supported by vista MCE..
4.although vista includes its own MPEG.2 video decoder & MPEG audio decoder u may like to change it..
use this ulitity to change default decoder for vista mce.
for decoders u may install nvidia purevideo decoder, cyberlink decoder(by installing power dvd)
my experience
i was able to make my COMPRO videomate tv gold plus 2 using vmhybrid drivers & leadtek winfast tv 2000 xp global using 4.x.xx drivers to work with vista mce.
IME arcsoft OEM MPEG2 ENCODER was nice.secondly i used nvidia purevideo as video & audio decoder..
