SAN FRANCISCO -- Dell and Ubuntu broke the barrier for major vendors to preload consumer desktop Linux, and now Lenovo and Novell have shattered the wall for Linux-powered business desktops. On Aug. 6 at LinuxWorld in San Francisco, the companies announced an agreement to provide preloaded SLED (SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop) 10 SP 1 on Lenovo ThinkPad laptops with Lenovo also providing Linux support.

Dell isn't resting on its recent consumer Linux PC laurels. The computing giant has added a new laptop -- the Inspiron 1420 Notebook -- to its Ubuntu Linux 7.04 offering. It is also replacing the Dimension E520 desktop with the new, low-priced Inspiron 530.

tho this is not latest news, but still i wonder why the option is not available in india.

linux on the desktop is finally gaining momentum. thanks to the biggies, or mebbe i should say thanks to vista! i dunno where i read it but recent polls conducted stated that people are not that happy wid vista and do not think vista is worth the upgrade (don't flame me for this. these are not my views. but since i don't remember the source, i'm not claiming anything!)

Well, then by this theory....as soon as the Hardware vendors release full & proper Vista drivers & MS releases SP1 (Corporates are looking for this), the sales of Vista will again sky rocket. After all, its Microsoft Windows which works out there with anything.

^^^ very much possible. people should be convinced that all the hardware will work in vista and haf less compatibility (one way to ensure this is to bring out newer versions) whatever it is, lets wait till sp1. vista is still away from the maturity XP had when launched (probably coz underneath it was the tried and tested Win2K)

^^^ i'm waiting for that day too. even hp was supposed to offer linux. but dunno what happened. i'm sure this will soon be a reality in india and we won't be forced to stick on wid windows :) this is advantageous for windows users (like gaurav who wanted to haf XP too) as well as for non-windows users, allowing them to spend that on something else.

Lenovo and Novell presents very good scheme,it really attracts the all Linux users, but the matter is that why mostly that type of good schemes only in abroad, why not in India, that is badluck for us.
