Laptop HDD Partitioning

Hi there,

i recently bought a laptop with a seagate 500 GB (5400RPM) HDD

I has a total space of 467 GB.

The laptop came with DOS so while installing widows on it...

> i deleted all the partions on it and all the space was unallocated now

> out of this total unallocated space i created a 67 GB partition and insatalled Windows on the same.

> Later using the windows disk management i created another partion 400 Gb partion (perform a quick format) from the remaining unallocated space.

Please tell me if the above steps were correct if they're wrong i'll do it again but please guide me.

also both these partions are primary(no idea if its good).

I'll be using the 67GB one for windows and the 400Gb one for Data Storage (Movies/Games/Images/Songs).

I want this setup to keep the data(400Gb) safe.

If my O.S. (on the 67Gb partition) corrupts i'll install it again on the same partion and the 400Gb partion will remain unchanged.

there are many ways to partition a hard disk, and the steps you followed are correct. :)
Check "Create and Format Hard Disk Partitions" to find out type of partition, i.e. primary, extended, etc.
