Jio Airfiber speed issue

Someone i know has subscribed to 100 Mbps plan of jio airfiber recently. After installation,he is getting close to 100 Mbps speed (typically around 70-80 Mbps) via wifi on his mobile, but on his PC,he is experiencing much slower speeds (around 20-40 Mbps).

The pc doesn't have built in wifi-thus he is using a tp link nano wifi adapter (that supports upto 150 Mbps) to connect to the jio router via wifi.

What could be the cause of slower speeds on his pc? Is it due to the wifi adapter? Will replacing it with a better adapter give him higher speeds? If yes, which one should he go for?

  • Windows or Linux?
  • Distance between location of router & PC?
  • Connected to front or back USB ports?
  • Check if any latest drivers are available from TP Link
  • Do a network reset if Windows
  • What if he uses hotspot from mobile and connects to it, how is the speed
  • Any other client like a laptop to test?
  • I had a similar issue with my Windows 10 laptop, I did a clean install of Windows 10 and left Windows to decide the best wifi driver. I did not use vendor provided driver and the issue went away.
  • Do enough troubleshooting to conclude that the issue is in OS and not in Adapter before buying a new one.
