PM's project to give bank accounts to every citizen is ambitious. Making way for delivery channel of public schemes, this project can eliminate middlemen. But has the PM done his homework? Already public sector banks are reeling with problems like staff shortage, excessive workload & this scheme is a huge burden to the already burdened bankers. My thought is that these dozens of banks must be merged & data needs to be centralized. What public is doing is opening accounts in all the state run banks & expecting to steal the Rs. 1 Lac insurance under this PMJDY. Like there are different database of a customer in different banks. If all this data were centralized & a customer had one ID like a Social Security Number than it would help in prevention of money laundering, unlawful activities,etc.
