I installed IE 8 last month. It was working fine until yesterday when 2 black stripes appeared. One on the menu bar and the other on tab bar. The menu bar text is completely hidden by this stripe. I cannot access the File, Edit , Favorites etc.
On the tab bar the whole of the tab bar has turned black except the opened tab. The text on the open tab is visible.
I uninstalled IE8 and before reinstalling I checked IE 7. It didn't have the above problem. But after I reinstalled IE 8 the black stripes reappeared.
What might be the problem and how can I resolve it?
I tried to place a snapshot of the IE 8 screen here but I am unable to do so. This would have given a clear idea of the problem. Can't I place images in this forum.

Try accessing the menus through Alt+F, Alt+E,etc shortcuts... For tabs, you should be able to navigate using ctrl+tab and ctrl+Shift+tab... This should help a little bit...

If you resize the IE8 main window, does the stripe realign?

Sorry for this late response. I was unable to go online for the past 3 days.
The problem got solved by itself. IE 8 is working fine and the black stripes have vanished mysteriously. It seems that the problem was solved when the system did the chkdsk and it restored a lot of files, orphaned ones, atleast thats what i saw while disk checking was going on and from the messages that were displayed while the process was running. I didnt monitor the entire process though as it took a lot of time.
I am not aware of the technacalities as I have very less technical knowledge.
Can anyone comment on what might have happened?
Thanks for the interest that all of you showed.
