how to setup a wi-fi connection?

i have a BSNL unlimited connection. its a wi-fi enabled modem. i have a laptop (DELL Latitude D610) which is wi-fi compatible. Is there any way i can connect this wi-fi modem with this laptop using wi-fi. if yes please suggest step wise method. please hurry. thanks in advance.
