has anyone here tried WINDOWS XP STARTER edition ?

just curious, is any1 here using winxp starter (lite) edition ?
has it started being avlbl in India ? how much doz it cost ?
how is ur experience ?

i understand that it opens only 3 or 4 windows max at any point of time;
and is compatible with only certain specefied low-end hard disk configs.

i would be interested in knowing ur personal experience/s, if any,
with it, pls.

I've not tried it yet .. but i can tell that it'll suck bigtime .... bad marketing plan by MS .... specially in a country so supportive to piracy ....

well i dont think product is ready for use.... as if u check the MS india all Windows XP Products page, u cant find the name started edition there....

i think it would be a very stripped down version of windows xp. I got this thing called a microsoft works free with my dell laptop and
at the begining i was happy as i had a licensed copy of microsoft word, spreadsheet etc etc free with my comp. Beleive me iam buying Microsoft office after a month of using microsfot works, its just a marketing gimmick. Example :- in works spreadsheet you are not alowed to open more than oone page in a spreadsheet.............

i have just learnt from another thread here, that its going to cost
around Rs 1000/-.

not bad, considering the fact its being targeted for 1st time computer
users !

its main limitations though are:
- it works on only low-end hardware like eg intel celeron or amd duron
/sempron.
- no networking support.
- can run only up2 3 programs at a time

u know.. some month back (where the coverstory was $100 PC) digit wrote that Windows XP starter Edition will cost less than Rs. 500 /-....
