its summer again,i use my pc 4 about 10 to 15 hours a day,my HD gets really hot so i placed it on top of my cabinet still then it gets really hot(u cant touch it).right now i am using wet towels to cool my hd(by placing on it).do u guys have other ideas

Your wet cloth technique is hazardous. Hard disks run hot. Not possible to touch, even when I lived in a place where winter temps never exceeded 14C.

Currently ambient temps in my room are never below 30C. I have two HD's stacked, running hot, running 24 x 7 since past 3 months.

Just stick the HD back in your case. Use the wet cloth to cool yourself or the dog

My hardisk temp goes to 43-45 degrees..

Place a extra fan on the cabinet,...
n if req... use a good vantelated cabinet.

Keep your cabinet open. Never put the covers on it. If ur cabinet is too jammed up with hardwares try to place ur hd separate, if possible outside.

If a cabinet fan is not a possibility for u right now, adapt an indianized jugad. Put a table fan directly beside the CPU. They r indeed very effective in cooling human as well as others :) .

More importantly, get ur room well ventilated. Open the doors and windows...let the breeze pass on.....let the neighbours watch you... ....

How ever, I am too curious about that hd cooler. What is that? :?:

hey rollcage dont worry i ensure that the towel is not too wet(well water doesnot drip from it).
even a fan cant cool my HD coz my room temperature is very hot(i think its due to the damn windows).but this works and i place the towel over the HD(not under it)

heres why wet cloth technique is bad:

the out side gets cooled fast and contracts while the inside is still hot. this diffrence causes data loss etc.
do this instead:
use a dry cloth (only a little cooler than the hdd and slowly draw heat.)
make sure room is well ventilated.
btw : give ur pc a break or a tall glass of ice water ;).

Its not that wether u take precautions or not ...
...My Dear Friend, the thing we are talkin here is HardDisk, not anything else.
I know that everone doesnt buy the new computer regularly...
if ny1 purchase a computer its bound to get old,
i am not saying that only the old computers have the problem,
but it depends on the usage ...
how do you keep your computer...
wether you u use it in a closed room with no windows..
it does happen when the offices are small n you have to keep your computer somewhere.

It is true that wen the HD is constantly workin at hot temp, its certainly a matter of considertion of you guys to think.

But in no way you can think of wat you are sayin man.
......puting a wet Cloth or towel......

ITS A BIG NO...NO....

Just think wat may happen/Better think why these not happen rather....!!!

> HD runs on electricity...
> Any sort of short cercuit can occur
> If any short cercuit does happen ... it will destroy your HARDDISK...thereby your valuable data will be gone
> There r full chances that it can affect your motherboard
> & also the most important component THE PROCESSOR

Ultimately YOUR WHOLE PC IS AT RISK.... How can anyone be so careless.

Now!!

What are the positive ideas we can thing of...lets see...

1. You can Buy a heat sink for the Harddisk

2. You can take special fans for HD..which are also known as cooler!!

3. You can take a good vantelated cabinet
- cabinets are easily availble in market

4. A good vantelation for the PC.
- e.g. put in a room which has roomcooler or AC installed.

You must be thinking...

.... What i said related to Vantelated Cabinets?

- These are normal cabinets....

...having one or two extra fans attached on the side of the cabinets.

Get a different HD. I got a 7200 RPM Samsung 160GB for under 5000 and it runs a lot cooler and quieter than any other HD I have ever used. The maxtors run the hottest. I cant touch my maxtor 7200 drive after 30 minutes but the 5200 RPM ones also run hot enough that you cant hold it. IBM, WDC, SEAGATE and others also run hot. I am really surprised that the samsung is so cool. I thought at first I got the 5200 version of the drive since they have like 3 different 160GB drives. But it was the 7200RPM drive. The 10K and higher drives are probebally not usable in india unless you leave it in an ac room. But has anyone noticed how all the ATM machines are inside air conditioned spaces?

just jokinn :D

Better take Vantelated Cabinets!

Try one from NAV TECH

It has a build in lcd that shows the temp.
when the temp. increases above the default level,.. 40 degrees in mine
the fans on the left side are activated.

The temp. goes down instantly.
