Last week, the Trump administration barred American companies from selling to Huawei without a US government license in a significant escalation of the trade war with China.

This will be harmful to both Huawei and Google. Huawei stands to lose a good portion of it's revenue and Google risks Huawei moving to their competitors.

Trade war with China is a bad idea in general.

Google won't be losing much.Unlike apple, google profit much less from their app ecosystem not to mention google gets nothing from China anyway as its services are banned there(huawei puts google services only on phones sold outside China). I was expecting this & that's why never recommended huawei to anyone since Trump puts it in his sight.

Huawei's mobile business will be doomed if this continues. America on the other hand will loose $1bn for this year. And zero revenues from Huawei from the next years. 2 possible scenarios-
1. Huawei pays a huge fine like ZTE and saves its ass+gives USA access to where ever they want. But it will loose public's trust.
2. Chinese government intervenes and gives up, again their image will be at stake.
Trump is going all guns blazing on Huawei, first arrested their heiress and now this. BC USA truly rules this world.
BTW Just yesterday Huawei's ceo said that he drinks tea at downing street, he's relying on European partners for the 5g expansion but they will eventually give up in front of Trump. Just a matter of time.
P.S. Some top level Huawei guy said few months back that they will displace Samsung from the no.1 spot in terms of mobile sales and also said that their products are not worthy. There was no response whatsoever from Samsung. Take that Huawei.

I am more worried about China's increasing dominance in 5g field.No matter how bad US policies are,it still is an open democracy compared to China where 7 members(current strength of their PSC but effectively it is just 1,Xi Jinping) decide everything. Concerns regarding Huawei are genuine,especially for India which already fought a war with China(& was defeated too).

USA used to be the main exporter of these metals but just like other fields they ceded that space to China.But it also means they have the capacity to recover in future after an initial shock.
