While AoE isnt free, and I dont think it will ever be, I know one RTS game that's free for download and its extremely good. In fact, its one of my all time favorites - Ground Control. Get it from FilePlanet here:

@rajkumar_personal: There is absolutely no indication that Microsoft will bundle an MGS game along with Windows anywhere in the foeseeable future. Pointless even thinking about it.
@drvarunmehta: Man, thats some news. I wonder which OS they were planning to ship it with. Has to be Windows ME or Windows XP, one of these two. 
Anyway, that just shows how much money they wanna milk out of their franchises. Heck, the AoE2 gold edition didnt drop its price from 2500 to 700 bucks until a couple of months ago here. And considering how ridiculously priced all their games and their expansions are, I seriously doubt how they even give Pinball along with Windows. Heck, it was so irritating when people purchased Microsoft Plus! and found that the Hyperbowl and other games were just extremely limited trials again and if they want them, they had to fork out more and more money. Heck, the Plus! game packs cost more than Doom 3 and Half-Life 2.

Heck, the Plus! game packs cost more than Doom 3 and Half-Life 2. @enoonmai:i think u r true, microsoft price their games ridiculously high, i bought age of empires collectors edition 3 years ago, it cost me around Rs.3700. i regret buying the whole collectors edition, i dont evn touch the first 2 aoe games now, and play only aoe2 conq. i wonder how much the collectors edition costs now
