Game freezes for 1 second after every 2-3 minutes.

I am facing a little problem with Call Of Duty 4 on my Lenovo Y50 (4GB). Every few seconds (like every 100 or 120sec) the game freezes for 0.5 or 1 second and then resumes normally. This is kinda frustrating when playing online. All the setting are either on LOW or DISABLED. When I play it @ 1080p the frequency of freezes increases and when I play it on 900p my screen freezes less frequently. This game is not resource hogging and I don't see any reason why it should not run without any problems on Y50. My GPU drivers are updated.

Even at these settings it freezes for 1 sec after every 2 - 2.5 minutes.

What is causing this according to you guys? Can this be due to some wrong or ill configured settings?

Some other information -
  • My laptop is fully optimised (manually) and there is no application hogging CPU, HDD or RAM in the background.
  • I have already performed a clean install of driver and Ge-Force Experience. Setting it to 'Maximum performance' didn't correct the problem.
  • I have ruled out these things - Low Memory, Switching to secondary GPU, CPU/GPU throttling (due to temp. or any other reason).
  • I'm suspecting that audio driver has something to do with this issue.

Basic Configuration -
  • Intel Core i7-4710HQ
  • GeForce GTX 860M (Maxwell, 4GB GDDR5)
  • 8 GB RAM
  • Windows 8.1 SL 64-bit
  • Nvidia Driver version 340.52

Does the game freeze only while playing online or it does in the campaign mode as well?

Here are some solutions you can try:
1. Check if the firewall or antivirus is blocking something.
2. The most important question is whether the game is genuine or downloaded from torrent? Some downloaded games are not that optimised.
3. Check if there is any latest patch for the game.
4. De-fragment your HDD and then try (i recommend using tuneup utilities).
5. If it is happening only online then maybe its an issue with ur internet connection

have you set windows to high performance mode? there are three modes under battery - power saver, balanced, high performance.

I also have this same problem with Mass Effect. The other games run fine. In ME, the game skips a frame or two randomly. Also I was having a problem with vlc, it was randomly stuttering like 5-6 times in a 10 min video. I searched through the net and found out that its bcoz of slow HDD.So I just removed indexing from the c drive and removed auto-optimization of drives and voila! everything became normal. Also the shutdown times have improved drastically. Maybe you should try that.

I also face the same issue when I play GTA SA MP but at greater intervals. Once the first freeze occurs, it follows with 2 more freezes which last for 1-2 seconds.

I think these issues are related to disk fragmentation, not sure.

While shutting down, does your screen switch off first and then after a minute the computer shuts down?
