I have an AMD Athlon 64 2800+ processor, GIGABYTE GA-K8VM88M (Rev 1.0) motherboard, 256 MB DDR 400, Samsung 5400 rpm 40 GB HDD, Samsung Combo SM-352F and a 200 Watt SMPS. It has got VIA K8M800 chipset and a S3 onboard graphics namely UniChrome Pro(2). My problem is that sometimes when the resolution changes the monitor goes blank it behaves as if it is not getting any signal the LED on the monitor turns into orange from green. This happens while starting a game or changing the resolution or the colour depth. The display comes back to normal when I restart the system or after sending the system to standby then again starting it. It also turns to normal sometimes when the resolution is restored to the normal (earlier resolution). The problem does not occur all of the times. My motherboard’s current BIOS version is F3 and the new BIOS version available is F8. I want to know that flashing my BIOS will solve the problem or I need to contact the service center or it is due to the SMPS (My monitors power supply does not goes from the SMPS). I am using the latest drivers for my both OS. This problem occurs in by both OS Windows XP Professional and Windows XP x64 Edition.

I do not think you have 200 watts power supply... It should be around 300 and above...

For flashing the Mobo use the following Link:

what crap is going on here ?
ur monitor goes blank cuz the onboard adapter doesnt support those refresh rates/color depth/resolution
u have to keep those setting within limits of the video card

upgrading ur BIOS is not gonna do jack shit for u !
infact when ur changing the resolution thru display properties and it goes blank .. wait 15 seconds .. it'll get back to normal
for these 15 seconds dont press any key .
ur old res will be back

everytime u change the resolution windows asks for confirmation before makin it final ..
it waits 15sec. for confirmation otherwise it reverts to old settings
so if by mistake u press enter or space, it'll select "yes" and finalise ur settings

this however is not the case for when u start games
when u start a game and it goes blank press alt+tab till u can see ur windows again
now goto to task manager ( ctrl+alt+del) and end the game window and/or process
and u wont have to restart

thats all i can do to help u

I am facing this promblem when i decrease the resolution too.
I wanted to know that the promblem I am facing could be due to 200 Watt SMPS or not.
