EXCEL ERROR

I WAS INSTALLING SOME UPDATE FOR WINDOWS FROM SOME MAG CD
BUT THOUGH I HAD CHECKED IT FOR THE VER. ETC DETAILS .IT REFUSED TO INSTALL AND TOLD THAT IT WILL REVERT BACK ALL THE CHANGES IT HAS DONE.

EVERYH THING WAS OK AND FINE TILL HERE

BUT AFTER IT WHEN I DECIDED TO OPEN ONE OF MY EXCEL DOCUMENTS AS SOON AS I CLICK ON THE DOCUMENT "WINDOWS INSTALLER STARTS"

I HAVE TO OPEN THE DOCS BY USING "OPEN WITH "THEN POINTING IT TO EXCEL

BUT ANOTHER PROBLEM IS IF I CLICK THE RADIO BUTTON STATING "ALWAYS USE THIS PROGRAM TYPE OF FILE"
IT SAYS"WINDOWS FAILED TO INSTALL THE PROGRAM ASSOCIATED WITH THIS FILE"


SAME PROBLEM IF I CLICK ON THE EXCEL ICON OF START--->PROGRAMS --->EXCEL

I AM USING OFFICE XP

well bud..seems ur excel is messed up...try this....when it starts installation..let it complete...and when it asks for CD...enter it and it will install the missing files...and if it does not solve the problem..try reinstalling Office......

The problem could be very likely the corrupted windows due to your installing win updates which could not get through. Updates are also difficult on pirated WinXP.

Reinstall Windows, then Excel (actually Office XP).
Get a good anti-virus and anti-spyware software and check your system thoroughly.
