Right off the assembly line
I bought a Sony DVD-Writer bout 6-7 months back..it worked fine wen i used it first time. but after that time till now, im experiencing a problem.
it is taking arnd 1hr or so to write a DVD. irrespective of the speed i give.. may it b 8x/12x/16x

My system configuration is P4, 2.8HT, 256MB RAM, Intel 865 board.
I tried these following things but no change..

  • Increased RAM to 512 then 768.
  • Re installed the Operating system.
  • Booted from other friends hard disk.
  • Loosen all bolts and then tried… and then took it out of system and put on the cabinet.
  • Created atleast 4GB space in the C drive.. (Windows drive) where NERO is installed.
Please help me regarding this. Im facing too much trouble cause of that.
Reply ASAP.

You have done everything except touching your DVD writer. Maybe its lens needs cleaning. Get its lens cleaned.

From where the lens can be cleaned...??? r u telling to use lens cleaner.....

Check the ATA cable. It might be the problem. Also in device manager check whether ur writer is in ultra-DMA mode cause if it's not then surely the cable is the problem. If u do not get any of these as the problem then get ur drive serviced,it will for sure solve ur problem.Do not play with the firmware for now.

This problem has been discussed here a lot of times and I have given the replies around 10-20 times. Please search before posting. This is a general problem with all DVD writers.

Just reset your DMA. Use this tool: DMA RESET
OR Change the DVD cable(that ribbon type) with a HD cable.
It should solve the problem. I have done this a lot of times.

Simple DMA problem, nothing else.
Reinstalling Windows restored the DMA.
Next time, don't go for reinstalling XP again.
