diff... graphics card marked as DDRI & DDR II

can some1 give me a idea about it. i have seen that G. Cards are mared as DDR1 and DDR II, what is the logic behind it? is it depends on the physical RAM module? my bro asked me that and i was not able to give the answer. he asked that can he use nVIDIA Geforce 6600 GT 256 DDR II 8x card on his mobo. his is using GIGABYTE 845 G with AGP 8x with DDR 266 MHz RAM.

those DDR1 and DDR2 markings means the type of graphics memory(GDDR1/GDDR2/GDDR3) used and have no relation with the physical RAM in your system.
