My dad is the HOD of Mechanical department. Their deptt. needs to buy computers for their CAD lab. So he has asked me to suggest a configuration so that the computers will be able to run CAD softwares like CATIA, Pro/E, AutoCAD, SolidEDGE etc.
System requirements for -
Catia-

Pro/E
*www.ptc.com/partners/hardware/current/support/proewf3.htm#system_requirements
AutoCad 2010
*usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/index?siteID=123112&id=11946449
For the processor, RAM, mobo I think something like Ahtlon64 X2 5200+ or E5200 with 2GB RAM and corresponding low end motherboards like m2n-mx-se+ or G31 will do.
But about the graphics card, I am not sure. I've been able to run CATIA V5 on my P4 3ghz and just the integrated graphics on my D915GLVG motherboard smoothly. But I saw a page (*www.eng-tips.com/viewthread.cfm?qid=233955&page=1) where a person had problems running it using 9400GT. Please have a look at the system requirements given above for the 3 softwares and suggest a good config.
