can a PCI video card can be used on PCIe mobo

i am having Asus A8N-E(with 16x PCIe) mobo and 6600GT(burnt and hence given for repairs).
now i also have a old display card based on PCI.
can i use this card in the PCI slot of mobo and hence would be able to use my pc till my card gets repaired.

depends on what card you have.
Some cards like S3 verge has known problem with a8n-e and a8n sli dlx.
Some other works.
No hard in trying.
If it dosent work it wont damnage your system what so ever.
THe worse can be the lockup or it wont give any display.

better not to try. You might inadvertently break the computer by hitting your head on it or worse smashing it. It was bad enough going from AGP to PCI but going from PCI-E to PCI would make you break. :) and I am not talking about you trying to play doom3 on it. Just seeing the screen refresh text displays is enough.
