first be clear about what do you mean by GK.GK as such is very wide & divided into many sub-areas.mention the intended usage of GK(exam,aptitude,personal learning etc) to get appropriate suggestion.

yes you need to.. you might be just surprised
year book should be enough assuming questions are to asked based on current/recent happenings.if questions are of type who invented this?,which is biggest/smallest? etc then ask at local bookshop(usually frequented by competition exam candidates,ask around for info) & ask for some kind of fact book.
