Hi Everybody
I need some advice on building a PC for a student of 3D animation. I know he uses Maya 3D and 3Ds Max. Are there any special system requirements as for gaming PCs, like 3D graphics card of a particular capability or an optimum amount of RAM?
Thanks in advance

Most of the system requirements remain same as a gaming system. What changes..

1. Wide screen -- preferably 1920 x 1080 (widescreen)
2. A PRO - series graphics accelerator. (nVidia = Quadro ; ATI = FireGL). These are really expensive as compared to gaming cards. They offer licensed drivers, and world standard guarantee for 3D animation. You can easily google these two types of cards to see how they are better compared to gaming cards for the type of work you require.
3. Maximum RAM which you can procure within your budget. 8 GB is good.
4. PSU to compliment.

Let us know, can advice specific components. Budgets..?

Sounds good^ and expensive :p

I really do not know the budget, what would be possible say @ Rs. 30000 and @ Rs. 40000

^^

a budget of 30K or 40K is too tight for a animation based PC, i think its not even enough for a basic (entry level) one too.. :(

^^ Ya correct.
If the OP can tell us some basic requirements, like screen size and over all power needed, we could try.

Ok
I am not fixated on price, but I do not have a lot of money to burn either.
I am thinking of a 17 or 21 inch LCD or CRT. I want to be able to run Maya 3D and 3DsMax

Ok...

22" DELL: ~10K (call DELL and get the exact price)
Intel Core i5 750 Processor: 9635
Intel DP55WB Core i5 Motherboard: 5933
*basic Intel board. Non OC model.
Corsair TW3X4G-1333C9 4GB Kit: 6510
*1333Mhz RAM --DP55WB does not support any higher.
Corsair CMPSU-450VX: 3990
1 TB HDD: ~4500
*approximate price.
Cabinet: 3500
*any Coolermaster series.
Leadtek Quadro NVS 280 64MB DDR: 6878
*PRO series for 3D work;non gaming.

Parts Total: 50946
Tax @ 2.5%: 1273.65

Overall Total: 52219.65

Now that is expensive. If you want to lower things, you can:

1. Get a cheaper cabinet.
2. Get a lower sized monitor.
