2nd ram slot does not work

My mb model is MSI PM8M-V.It has 2 ram slot and i have a 256mb of ddr-1 ram which is in the 1st slot.I want to buy a anather ram of 512 mb ddr-1,so i change my ram 1st ram position into the 2nd slot ,then i start my computer but it does not start. Please help me

me have the same problem with my office system, but removing one slot either 256 or 512 works fine. 256+256 works but 256+512 doesn't work, dunno wht the exact problem is

tried a lot by changing slot vice-versa, clean the connection circuits but at last failed, now using 512mb.

In your case I think ur mobo has a max limit of 512MB. Older mobos had limits like this. Check ur mobo specs.
