Hi Boss , go ahead and get the card and start using internet ,cause in india the isp do not have hi speed net like 11 mbps , that all is in USA and UK . Indians are happy with 512kbps or 1mbps . Enjoy

11Mbps is wi-fi b and 54Mbps is wi-fi a and wi-fi g...it doesnt matter...practically, speeds never go that high....

and how come ur PC only supports wifi b>>> its ur card that supports wifi standards....2 b on the safe side, u can get a card which supports a b and g standards....

Hi.
go for that card mate...it doesnt matter much cuz in India u wont get that high speeds as told by some guys here...just to be on the safe side ask the dealer wether the card is future safe i.e if it will support b,g Wlan standards

thanx every1. i'll go ahead and buy the card.
and yes, its not that my pc doesn't support wi-fi 'g' standard. the problem is that when i installed a d-link wi-fi g card my pc just stopped responding after reboot. but my friends wi-fi b card works fine on my pc.

thats just a driver conflict probably
that doesnt mean u give up on 54 mbps cards altogether
all u need is one thats compatibel with ur system and one with updated drivers
try that 54 mbps card again with updated drivers from the manufacturers website

since ive posted . ill take this chance to comment

india has nuthin to do with the speeds :p
we arent talkin abt internet here
this is a local connection
factors it depends on is the same everywhere

OH WHEN INDIA WILL HAVE 11GB TO 54 GB\SEC SPEED
I THINK WHEN WE ARE GRANDFATHERS NA,THEN SOME HOP OF GETTING IT
OH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HUH ?
what the h3ll are u talkin abt ?
11 gb and 54 gb/sec ?
whos talkin abt GB's ?
and let me make this clear again
WiFi works on a particular frequency to be precise ard 2.4 ghz and it uses frequency hoppin
the max rated speeds for a/b is 11 mbps and for g is 54 mbps
THESE ARE MAX SPEEDS ATTAINABLE AND DO NOT DEPEND ON THE COUNTRY THEY WORK IN
we are not talkin abt ISP's here
we are talkin Wlan or Wireless LAN
do u goto ur ISP for settin up a local LAN ?
and do u pay subscription ?
and do u get a 64kbps bandwidth only acc. to how much u pay ?
NO
because it is a L-O-C-A-L LAN
wireless net connections would be with the help of WiMax and WiMax still doesnt have any supporting hardware
its labeled the IEEE 802.16 standard
it is still in testing tho the last test was very successfull
we will be seeing implementation of this within the next year
then we'll crib abt bandwidth limitation in india over wireless communication

[edit] o i forgot turn ur caps off
keepin caps on is considered screaming ...

yes well said raven...
when we talk of WLAN or Wi-Fi, it means that we r using a wireless card 2 log into a network and then access the internet frm there.....u may also simply set up a wireless LAN 4 ur home with multiple PCs and use it 2 share info or 2 play LAN games...ISPs set up wifi hotspots frm where u can access the internet 4 a fee...in places like new york, there r plenty of free hotspots too...my university also provides internet thru WLAN in the open areas where there r no network jacks 2 hook up ethernet cables....

wifi is still a long way frm being widely accepted in India....it is good 4 college campuses as students can get internet access no matter where they r on campus....
