whats the real difference between RAM kits and single RAM stick.?

Why most of u suggest to hav 2x2GB DDR3 RAM rather than a 1x4GB DDR3 RAM ? Acc. to me 1x4GB will save RAM slots and will help to maximize the RAM to its highest limits !!- omega44-xt
