If you need a camera now, get whatever is available in the market, there will always be a upcoming new model ;) On the other hand, if you have a camera so that you are not missing out on photo opportunities then yes you may wait on the upgrade depending on the timeline.

@OP Get the D7K if you can, else the D5100 as sujoyp suggested. Difference in image quality can not be covered up by the lens alone. Lens matters yes, but so does the sensor (low light, noise, etc.). All said, IMO get the D7K with kit and use it diligently for 3 months. Then you can decide on...

@OP, Since you are putting more emphasize on image clarity and you've already increased budget upto 26K, you should opt for an entry level DSLR. Look into Nikon D3100 or Canon 1100D.
