Thank you Neeraj.
I'd considered buying a repeater, but they seem to be much more expensive and offer a much larger range than I really need. Can you suggest one that fits my budget?
I have a Beetel 450TC1 router provided by airtel. The range of that router is barely 10m. I want to buy a wireless router for around 1.5-2k with a larger range (atleast 20-30m).
I've considered the Belkin Basic Router and the Netgear Wireless-N 150 Router (both for about 1.5k on Flipkart)...
u might be able to do with ur current psu as c2d requires quite lesser power than the p4 and adding the gpu shudn't tip the scales much. just check the power requirements of the c2d, p4 and the 9600gt on the net. not too sure about the exact requirements.
the mobo is from ECS - chek with ur dealer if it is available in india currently, not too sure.
for the processor, i'd chekd deltapage.com the stuff there is usually slightly more xpensive than the street prices. if u can't get the e7400 for 5.5k, u can go for the e4600 or a lower end e7xxx...
debsuvra is correct. the bootloader of xp is an older one which does not recognize vista.
to get to dual-boot mode with both vista and xp working, download and install vistabootpro. the software will modify the bootloader.
not too sure abt active matrix storage technology... but the price of the g41 is around 4k, i think. u could go for a g41 mobo. or u could go for an intel c2d e7400 at abt 5.5k.
i'd recommend the hp pavillion dv5-1104ax
the config:
AMD Turion™ X2 Dual-Core Mobile Processor RM-70
3GB DDR2 800MHz RAM
320GB HDD
15.4" display
ATI Radeon HD 3450 512MB Graphics Card
the rest are pretty standard.
The GPU on this one will be sufficient to play all current games...
@sravan
the config given by comp@ddict is pretty gud, but u don't need an e7300 for ur requirements - even a e5200 (@ abt 3-3.5k) will do.
then again u don't need such an expensive mobo for ur needs - u can buy a gigabyte EG31M-S2L (@ abt 2.5k)
nd u also can go for a less expensive graphics...
if u want to use ur pc for gaming, u also need a graphics card and an onboard gpu won't do much with recent titles.
listing config including the gpu...
processor: c2d e5200 - abt 3-3.5k
mobo: gigabyte EG31M-S2L - abt 2.5k
ram: transcend 1gbx2 - abt 1.5k
gpu: palit nvidia geforce 9400gt...
the config by foruamit2004 seems fine.. though u can consider changing a few things...
- go with 667mhz ram instead of 800mhz - will save money. the c2d e5200 won't really be able to make much use of the extra 133mhz.
- for better performance, consider dual channel memory i.e. 1gbx2 rather...
if u want just performance, go for XFX - real gud, though expensive.
but for a gpu with an excellent price-performance ratio, go for palit - they make graphics cards that really giv a bang for ur buck.
u can use just about any torrent softare like utorrent, bittorrent or azereus. it won't make much of a difference in speed.
the thing that matters is the no. of seeds and peers. the higher their number, especially the no. of seeds, the higher the download speed. leechers cause the download...
there is directx 10 available for xp. it is in alpha stage currently so may not work correctly. be sure to create a restore point before installing.

in explorer go to tools -> folder options -> show hidden files
open each drive using right-click -> open. u'll see a file called autorun.inf in each of the drives. delete that file.
