what u could try is moving the uninstall file for a program (in the programs folder). then access the add/remove program and say remove program. Theoretically it shouldn't find the uninstall and say that the program might be gone, remove the icon. That way, the program should still be there, but...

true..the dvd writes so much data at once, a USB 1.1 couldn't keep up...i would hope though that firewire is avaliable as well..its way faster then either.. and as for external hdd.. i believe that investing in an original is much better...they might end up costing close to 8-9k but they are...
