as per ur problems all i can say that you install windows xp again using win98 as the platform --- and it will be then installed in d:.. make sure u format d: before installing.(as u dont have abootable cd)

well! what is the mother board u are using? do you know the sound driver name? is the mother board an intel 845 chipset or intel 865 chipset(Original) and if u are using intel P4 2.66 or 3.0 Ghz... u cant install win 98 drivers...

There got to some problem with RAM, but before checking the RAM its better you reload windows by formatting the HDD.
