Please suggest a distro for my friend with KDE as DE.
As he does not have high speed internet connection so he wants all the stuff work out of box, he does not bother whether the code is open source or not.
what is main purpose here it should work out of box with zero configration.

It should also play Mp3's,dvd's and other things out of box

Well the main purpose of this is to get familiar with linux and after that he can shift to standard linux distro like fedora,Ubuntu etc

I don't think Mepis would play things out of box but it sure looks deadly pretty!

Edit: Looks like the mega DVD pack has codecs in it, cool, go for it! (Lacks only Libdvdcss and w32codecs, has gstreamer and libxine etc, which'd easily play all popular media :)) )

@gary, linux mint has all wat u want, and plus more, so no need to download any extra....

torrents for linux mint.

*www.linuxmint.de/downloads.html ( for kde & gnome stable releases)

if u want an gnome version, then u can download the latest version, which has many goodies already in it, but a beta release.

LinuxMint-3.1-BETA-017(gnome)

LinuxMint-3.1-BETA-017 included softies
