serious problem with Assus K7VM266 motherboards

i have a pc based on athlon 1700xp ; motherboard is assus K7VM266 with on board agp ge force2.
with ram modules 256 and 128. botha are running speed at 266Mhz.winxpSP2
Some days erlier i've got problem with that mather board that not showing display.
one expaert was saying that ther is a problem with that ram module but after repairng that tthe prob leb starts again.
this it is not boot in winxp.
I tried with knoppix live cd 3.2. that works fine but it shut down rapidly.
although sometims it works fine but in the long run i hope it will not work cause i wont able to boot it in winxp.
plz help me..
i have some data which really needed from the hard disk but in this case knoppix is not helping me.
i am totaly depends on you may friend....

mmmm......is there some kind of beeping from the motherboard? because in cases where there are no display, the mobo usually beeps to indicate the error, and you might be able to identify it from that pattern. as to the hdd, you can connect it to a friend's comp as a slave and copy it, or use the windows 2000 recovery console, as it allows access w/o a password even for protected accouns.
