^^ I think we will see some 23.5:10 ratio monitors in coming years. Those who use 2 or 3 screens adjacently might be interested to buy a wider single screen instead.
For others, that might not be as convenient since one would probably be squinting or moving his head a lot to see content on...
^^ That is a bit off-mark. The horizontal black bars don't cover up any portion of the image.
For ex. a 720p (1280x720) video would map 1:1 on a 1280x800 screen, leaving 40 pixel high horizontal black bars on the top and the bottom -- no information/signal is lost.
Also, most movies have...
Please do not be pissed off by my remarks -- but why not go for an inexpensive netbook for a little bit more price?
I really don't see any point in spending so much money and added cost of maintenance over time to make a power guzzling desktop pull through a little bit longer.
^^ Actually 1400x900 is getting harder to find as each day passes.
These bloody 16:9 inch monitors. :x Had to settle for one myself. 16:10, I feel is the sweeter spot for desktop use, 16:9 is a bit too wide.
In your friend's case it might just be that not everyone cares the same about...
@Psychosocial
Isn't that a bit overkill for an 8 yr old? You could easily have bought an Intel Classmate or say an All-in-one Atom based desktop for less. And it would have fared better.
^ You've bought it already. Why do you ask?
My friend got a good deal on that one. Acer 4736
- Screen is small enough (13?) but has 1366X768 resolution. Good.
- Keyboard Okish. Not contoured.
- Trackpad Okish.. No no, horrible!
- 3GB DDR2 RAM + 320 GB HDD .. Okay for the price.
-...
Let me re-frame that to "I'd want to have Macs all around me." By which I want to imply that since stuff is cheaper out there and the used market is great, I'd indulge myself in buying a lot of Macs, used/new.
There are so many discontinued Macs that fantasize me. Like the Pismo Powerbook...
Why the hell is the MacBook Pro so expensive out there? 74k for a 1199$ (tax excluded) machine?
When you can get the new unibody MacBook at 56k (18k lesser than the Pro); I think that is the value. And it doesn't miss much from the Pro really. I guess people here aren't as much dependent on...
^ Which means Windows rating is not that dependable.. Was it gaming graphics or was it AERO score?
@Artemis
Flip back a few pages of this thread. I read it "whole" when I got my Mac. Worth it.
A Mini DP -> VGA and a VGA -> Composite, at the risk of it not working.
@Artemis
1. Apache can be used, Squid ports exist. More here.
2. Google.
3. Google. Does Blender count?
4. Boatload. Mail and Safari both will work I guess. I use NetNewsWire.
5. What about Quicktime? VLC is...
^ If its an SDTV, I'd suggest you to not buy an adapter which would probably cost around 3k for the setup, and I dont really think you'd use it for that long. With the price of HD screens falling like anything, I think it wont be long before you invest in one.
You could try Mini-DP -> VGA ->...
Formatting would be the last thing I'd do. Thats what I hate about Windows, something goes wrong, bang! Format.
Already fixed though. :razz:
- Sysinternals Process Explorer for terminating the weird named processes.
- Malwarebytes Antimalware updated and scanned.
- Norton AV updated...
^^ Thanks. Checking out the link.
No, Windows Defender is not there by default in Windows XP. I had SP2, I upgraded to SP3. Its not there. Was available for download once for XP too, dont know what has become of it now. Heard that it went the paid-software route for XP users...
^ Comodo what? Firewall w/ antivirus?
@swatkat
You're probably the security expert here right? :)
How's Kaspersky/Norton Internet Security suite?
Avira, I doubt its that good. Despite having it installed, updated, drive autoplay disabled, a virus could make through.
Uh, having faced tough time without an Anti-virus (and I thought I could chug along!), I have finally fallen to my senses.
What's the perfect Anti-Virus/Internet Security suite that:
1. has low system requirements and performs well on minimum hardware,
2. has good detection rates (I dont...
