can any body tell me What is the difference between Xwindows and other gui?
and what is the advantage of xWindows? over windows manager or other gui?

XWindows is the lowest level of abstraction in Unix. Other window managers like MetaCity, GNOME, KDE etc. are based on XWindows and internally use it.

XWindows are at a low level and can directly interact with hardware, so if wanna program with XWindows it is quite difficult as compared to high level toolkits like Xt, Qt etc.
