I want to upgrade my XP Home SP2 to Prof SP2. Whenever I run setup this

dialogbox appears and setup fails to continue. Please help

'Setup cannot continue because the version of Windows on your computer is

newer than the version on the CD.

Warning: If you decide to delete the newer version of Windows that is currently

installed on your computer, the files and settings cannot be recovered.'

I am running a P4 2.4 PC with 80 GB HDD, 256MB RAM

Mr.CG,
The nature of the Error itself shows that you are trying to install an "Older"
version on a "Newer" version.Which would'nt be possible.

I think there is a SIngle SP2 for both Home & Professional Versions of XP.
And you have already Upgraded to SP2,the PC is not lettinng you to do
so again.

U cannot upgrade from WinXP home to WinXP Prof. without formatting ur earlier installation.

You may also try to install into diff partition though, that will work.

First of all, check which build of Windows XP Home you are running. Click on Start>Run and type in

winver

and hit Enter. The build version would be listed next to the Version Number of the OS. While it is possible to upgrade a non-SP patched Windows XP Home install to Windows XP, there will be a problem if you get the non-SP2 upgrade disc of Windows XP Professional. You can either:
a) try to get a SP2 rolled in CD for the Professional upgrade
b) Roll your SP2 Home install back to the stock installed version
c) Copy all the setup files to your hard disc, apply SP2 to it using the slipstream install method (refer here for information on using the SP2 file to create a slipstreamed SP2 compatible hard drive install) and then use the Winnt32.exe file on that SP2-installation to start your upgrade. If you want more help on No.3 here, which is your best bet, I will be happy to help.

Hey man............
If you have installed critical updates, uninstall all of 'em and restart and try again................ That's it. DO post a feedback if this helps............
