winxp unresponsive after internet connection

hey guys, pls help me out here. wheneva i connect to da net, no progs run in winxp. the comp doesnt hang, cuz i can access the start panel, my computer etc. but if i try running any prog such as my browser (opera , firefox), msn messenger, or any other program for that matter, nothing opens up. nothing just happens. even the task manager doesnt start up by pressing ctrl-alt-del. the progs only start after 15-20 mins, and then all runs fine. even disconnecting does not help. can any1 help me out? this is gettin really irritating!!!!! :evil:

Hey man this could a sign of a virus which is damaging ur files and hard drive. Do a thourough check a run System File Checker and install all updates with post SP2 updates. By the please also mentions your system specs so that we can check for other problems also

i am using avast pro which gets updated daily. no sign of virus there. hav even run spybot but no luck there. my winxp gets updated automatically every day when i connect to da net. so its up 2 date. i just cant figure out wat cud b the prob. my system specs are winxp, p4 2.4, 256mb...intel 845gv...

hey! even iv got the same problem! but the computer starts responding after about 5-6 mins! iv run a full system scan using norton antivirus, norton systemworks, spybot s&d, spyware doctor, registry mechanic, ms antispyware!!!!! :shock:

(i know thats hell of a lot scanning, but nothing came up!!)

help US out guys!

futuristically_ancient i had a similar problem earlier with winxp sp1. it had nothing to do with virus. But my problem was fixed when i chucked my old os and put in winxp sp2

Download HijackThis and unzip it to dedicated folder (like C:\HijackThisFolder\hijackthis.exe).
Then run it and click the button Do a System scan and save log file. HijackThis will perform a scan and saves the log file as hijackthis.log in the same folder where it is installed and it also opens the file automatically.
Copy the entire contents of the file and post it this Section.

jus check if u got more than 1 lan card installed....if yes then disable the 1 u r not using...i faced the same problem n things went right aftr doing this....also download xp sp2 immediately

same here. didnt hav the prob with sp1 installed. but hav sp2 installed for quite a few months now...with no probs....this prob is something new, which started bout a week bak...so i guess its nothing to do with the service packs....neways, shall post the hijackthis log file.....
