I am facing a typical problem and need your advice. The problem started all of a sudden when my system (P-IV 3GHz Dual Core, Intel 945GNT MoBo and 1GB RAM, no Graphics card) booted but before going to Welcome screen, restarted. This went on continuously until switched off. Considering file corruption, I tried to install fresh WinXP, but it failed to install saying that “Battery Driver missing, CDROM Driver missing" etc. WinXP, WinXP with SP2 and Media Centre Edition all saying the same. Sometimes when I tried to install XP, then after format, copy of files from disc and restart it again goes to format without going to “finalization of installation”. I checked the RAM in another machine and it is working fine. Surprisingly, Windows 2000 is installing and running without any problem but when try to upgrade to WinXP, the above problems start. Is it the problem with the Motherboard? The board is well within warranty period. What is the procedure to change it from Intel?

its probably your Win XP disc, genuine? Or sone cheap AIO that lacks drivers ?

The disc is perfect. Fresh installation from that disc is running smoothly on several computers. Besides, it is not an ALL-IN-ONE pack. I tried to install WinXP, WinXP with SP2 and Media Centre Edition that are from different discs.

get your HDD to some of your buddy and copy all the files from his
%systemroot%\system32\drivers to your OS partition's \windows\system32\drivers. Run back home, plug in the HDD and it should work fine.

Alternate Solution
This will work only if you have two optical drives. Burn the above mentioned folder from you buddy's PC. Now pop-in the XP's CD in your optical drive, place the "burnt" disc in the other drive.
when the XP installer says press "enter" to continue, "R" to repair, "F3" to quit. press R to enter recovery console. Now copy the siles from the "burnt" disc to you OS's partition.

This is not the solution I think because the same problem is shown when I tried to install WinXP from different discs.

Any other solution?

Will anybody please inform the procedure to replace a faulty product from Intel.

The problem was with the Hard Disc. It is within warranty period and after change from Seagate(Seagate not changed it with a new Hard Disc but a Seagate-certified repaired one). But I am surprised at why at the faulty Hard Disc Win2000 was installing and aparently working fine but WinXP was not installing/upgrading from Win2000. Any possible explanaion?
