· Autohide
Autohide gives you an unobstructed view of your favorite movies by hiding the Player Panel. This new feature puts the Player Panel at your fingertips when you need it, but keeps it out of the way when you don't. You can choose to keep the Player Panel visible during play or hidden, so that it never obscures your view.
· Video Desktop
Video desktop lets the movie play in the background, just like wallpaper. Open windows and icons appear over the movie. This lets you view the movie in true background mode.
· Smart Stretch
From time to time people have to watch videos on a display device that has different width/height ratio than original aspect ratio of videos, such as watching a 4x3 DVD on a wide screen TV or a 16x9 movie on an ordinary TV. In these scenarios, it will stretch, or squeeze, video to the size of screen without changing the look of the center of interest. Explained below is the basic rundown and comparison between existing techniques and smart stretch.
- Off: Maintains original aspect ratio.
- Stretch to 4:3: Chops off the sides of video to fit the target aspect ratio. It displays video in full screen but discards valuable data meanwhile.
- Stretch to 16:9: Adds black frame of the target aspect ratio to original video. It keeps all the data but the TV screen is wasted to display black frame.
- Center: Defines the position of the center of the area of interest.
- Width: Defines the width of the area of interest.

I hate when these blokes mention its trial or shareware. Why dont they give it as freeware ??

Do you work for free? Intervideo has given us some of the best mpeg2 decoding filters ever. I wouldn't expect them to release their works for free.

What would they tell their stockholders (IVII - NASDAQ) ?

which one is better? WinDVD 7 or Power DVD 6?
i found power DVD is better than WinDVD 6. did nt tried WinDVD 7 yet.

I found PowerDVD 6 far better than WinDVD 7. Who wants to pay 100$ for a DVD playback software with a few frills attached? You get a standalone DVD player for less than that.
Of course, if you're going to crack it, then the cost dosen't matter.

If you're looking for a free option try this

FFDShow Filter (latest version here)- *m17n.cool.ne.jp/freeware/mpc/ffdshow-20050619.exe

with MediaPlayer classic - *sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=82303&package_id=84358

This combo beats any payware videoscalers out there in quality. Also FFDShow can be tweaked to your hearts content. It's a decoder filter only. So it works with Windows Media Player too.

On how to get the best out of FFDShow, read this excellent article -

*htpcnews.com/main.php?id=ffdshowdvd_4

See next page for before/after comparison shots.

PS: Save these links as most of the time they're hard to find. Especially 2005+ versions of FFDShow are not listed on their Sourceforge project page.

Cheers,
Keith

In Pursuit of "Happyness"
Got it working afterall! Un-installed, deleted all folders of intervideo everywhere on my disk, deleted all registry entries and then installed again. And it worked!!!

Good to hear

Try Filter Manager for solving any future conflicts. You'll find what you're looking for under Direct Show filters. For starters, try playing around with priorities. To know what filters are used by your PC, try GraphEdit's render file option.
