Guys!
I'm facing this problem since some days.
Before today, many times when i start my system, and windows start, it automatically restart when Login Screen was about to come, i.e., It restart before the login screen.
But today, my windows restart automatically after the complete login, i.e., the desktop was running and it restarted automatically.

What may be the reason?
I hv checked by reinstalling the windows, but problem exists.
And it happens not always but sometimes.

PS: A startup entry called KernelFaultCheck = "%systemroot%\system32\dumprep 0 -k" is automatically added in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run.
And today I saw a strange icon a triangle with ! inside, when i clicked on it or double-clicked on it, it disappeared and again displayed after a few secs.

It cud b a virus.

just run a virus scan.

also try removing that entry. if there's a virus it'll definitely create it again and again or stop u from removing it.

also install hijackthis!, ad aware, spybot and never remove these progs.

post ur hijackthis! log to any 1 who hav knowledge of highjackthis!

Hop it helps.

dumprep 0 -k is used in connection with memory dumps that are sent as a report to MS as part of their Error Reporting system, which, in my experience, actually causes more errors and browser crashes when you keep it activate (not to mention annoys like no tomorrow. It's the little window that says "Error, report to Big Brother? er...Microsoft?")
You can turn it off by opening the system icon in the control panel, choosing the ADVANCED tab, and then disabling error reporting from there.

use it

Used in connection with memory dumps - you can disable these by - right clicking on My Computer, selecting Properties and then the Advanced tab. Click on the Settings button in 'Startup and Recovery'. In the bottom pane - under 'Write debugging information' - click on the down arrow and then select 'None' - OK your way out

Not a virus.
I hv scanned my system and no virus found.
And the entry as I mentioned is not created again, when I delete it.

@rajas700
ERROR Reporting option is deseleted already but Write debugging information option was not set to None, and I hv set it to None now.

And what about that Strange Triangle Icon in status bar, that I mentioned in my post? What it is? Is it dumrep's icon?

And finally what is the reason of this automatic restart?
Is it h/w conflict?

kallumama24

Right off the assembly line
it is surely not a h/w conflict but your motherboard may need some servicing. may be ur bios is gradually getting corrupted and you might need to flash it.

I think I got the reason for this restart problem but not the solution.

I unchecked the Automatic Restart option for System Failure in Startup and recovery.
So now my windows xp didnt restart automatically, but showed BSOD:

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

.....................................................
.....................................................
.....................................................
.....................................................

Technical Information:

*** STOP: 0X000000D1 ( 0X00000060, 0X00000002, 0X00000000, 0XFC707EE7 )

*** ser2pl.sys - Address FC707EE7 base at FC701000, DateStamp 3cb2c605

When I restarted the computer, it again showed BSOD right after the Boot Screen:

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

DRIVER_CORRUPTED_MMPOOL

.....................................................
.....................................................
.....................................................
.....................................................

Technical Information:

*** STOP: 0X000000D0 ( 0X0055A1C4, 0X00000002, 0X00000001, 0X80549318 )

So it seems that some h/w conflict is causing that automatic restart problem.
I think ser2pl.sys file is used by DKU-5 cable driver for Nokia 3120.

And about that strange triangle icon, I'm sure that its not of dumprep application cauz I hv deleted its entry in registry and there is nothing except AVG startup entry in the registry.
I'm attaching a screenshot of it:

Pls techies help me...

its nothing to worry abt.

it tries to connect to da net to download updates.

u can remove it by unchecking automatic update under security

I think this problem cause due to faulty RAMs. Previously I suffered from this problem due to this reason. If you have more than one RAM installed, please check them by installing separately.

Its not automatic updates icon.

And my problem has been solved!
As I guessed that was due to DKU-5 cable drivers.
I uninstalled the drivers and removed the cable from cabinet.
Then again attached it and reinstalled the fresh drivers.
Now no icon appearing and no automatically restart problem...

ENJOY!!!
